There
have been a lot of train related incidents that are responsible for causing
many casualties. Though there were measures taken to reduce mishaps but
unwarranted weather conditions other reasons did not pay heed to not causing
damages and accidents. Therefore a more effective mechanism to keep check on
the tracks was developed that recorded data real time.
Known
as conditional railway monitoring system, these machines are well equipped to
record accurate data as per the type of track that it is installed on. For
instance, for the railway bridges that are built on rivers, monitoring devices
kept in check the vibration of the rail bridge design and alerted authorities
in case of an emergency. The monitors
are also helpful in checking for damages in the tracks on bridges and that
whether they will be able to withstand the trains plying over them.
Advanced
monitoring systems for railways use
sensors that are fitted in the railway tracks at various places. These sensors
not only provide data regarding the health of the tracks but data of the trains
such as weight, speed and wheel dynamics is also recorded.
With
such advancement in the monitoring of tracks as well as trains, there is little
scope for a mishap to occur as due to sensors and the device, any problem would
be detected beforehand and there will be time to avert a mishap, thereby saving
a lot of lives. Almost all railway companies across the world now employ this
method which means safer routes and thus, safer travel.
